Engrossing, mind-bending story/premise。 Only reason not 5 stars is I would have liked more development of the main male character; female characters are very interesting and well developed。

En kyllä voi suositella kirjoja。 Suosittelen enemmänkin lukemaan tai kuuntelemaan jonkun referaatin kirjan tarjoamista uhkakuvista, joita ihmiskunta tulee kohtaamaan kosmoksessa。 Kirjojen tarinankerronta on kyllä ihan päin helvettiä。 Kirjailija pysäyttää välillä tarinaa ja keskusteluja useamman sivun ajaksi kertoakseen taustatietoa asioista joita lukijan ei edes tarvisi tietää。 Kirjassa on useampia erinomaisia hyvin inhimillisiä hahmoja mutta he jäävät täysin taka-alalle。

TLDR: first book is very enjoyable on its own as a novel, the broader implications were even more interesting for me。 I would probably not recommend the sequels, but anyone like me who reads the first won’t be able to help themselves。 。。。more

More than as a story, this saga exists as an epistemological and scientific experiment。 The author explores physics to their ultimate consequences, unfolds them and leaves them on the table so that the reader can see their entrails。 In this sense, he has no match。 Everything else, sadly, doesn't live up to the expectations。 Aside from complicated gender politics (that especially in the last novel can take the reader out of the story), the main problem is that all the other branches of science di More than as a story, this saga exists as an epistemological and scientific experiment。 The author explores physics to their ultimate consequences, unfolds them and leaves them on the table so that the reader can see their entrails。 In this sense, he has no match。 Everything else, sadly, doesn't live up to the expectations。 Aside from complicated gender politics (that especially in the last novel can take the reader out of the story), the main problem is that all the other branches of science disappear before the end of the first book, and with them the possibility of building a plausible world。 The one the characters inhabit never ceases to seem forced, frozen, and static, designed so that the author can project his theories the way a biologist would create a reduced version of an ecosystem to study a certain population。 Pretty much the same can be said of the characters, that feel more like avatars than actual people (although this is usual in hard science fiction)。 This combination works well in the first book, and holds up somewhat in the second, but loses its appeal in the third。 The accumulation of threats, tragedies, ending worlds, impotence, God-like technology and human stupidity。。。 One ends up wondering what's the point of caring about an Earth that no longer has any connection with the one we know。 There's a maximum of times you can save the world last minute before the promises of destruction stop having any impact。 The author pushes the idea of how futile it is to cling to existence, but in the end he deviates from this path and in doing so damns the book。 When all is set and done, he shows that without hope there can be no pain, and that the most marvelous and imaginative worlds will mean nothing if the reader can't get emotionally attached to them。 。。。more

A vision about the future, so bold, fantastic, different! We humans should not dwell on the small stuff, or worry about yesterday。 What holds tomorrow, we do not know? I read all three books non stop。 Recommended to everyone, with no regard to favourite genre。

My all time favorite science fiction work。 I never thought that sequels, even in a trilogy, could be better than the opening book。 The trilogy, while being creative and mindblowing, gets better with each book。 Allthough names, details and a few events are a bit cheesy and odd at times, the historic setting, imaginative technology and cosmic sociology makes up for it。

James M Higgins

Time is now。Story kept me intrigued to see what would happen next。 Some things I did not see coming。 interesting Chinese perspective on history and the future。 Did not care for details on scientific explanations of 4 dimensional space etc。。。 this a good read for those who love a good story that goes in unexpected directions。

I did not finish。 I tried。 I really tried。 The first book in the series had an intriguing premise and that was enough for me to overlook the many, MANY faults of this book series。 The writing was terrible。 I'm not sure if it was just a janky translation but it read like something that had been translated using google translate。 By the time I got to the second book, I was grinding my teeth every time i made it through a sentence because of how bad it was。 The characters are silly and flat。 And th I did not finish。 I tried。 I really tried。 The first book in the series had an intriguing premise and that was enough for me to overlook the many, MANY faults of this book series。 The writing was terrible。 I'm not sure if it was just a janky translation but it read like something that had been translated using google translate。 By the time I got to the second book, I was grinding my teeth every time i made it through a sentence because of how bad it was。 The characters are silly and flat。 And the author has a silly understanding of how human society works。 So many of the events in the book are just unbelievable。 The main issue I have with it, at the end of the day, is that the premise could have led to a mindblowing book series in the hands of a more capable author but this was just terrible。 I gave it the extra star because of the amazing premise。 。。。more

If I could give a 4。5 I would。 It's a very good series, every book in the trilogy stands out in their own way。 The only downsides are minor, for instance I think the end of book 3 could have happened sooner than it did。 Overall a very engrossing series which makes you think a bit and is more than just hard sci fi - elements of philosophy, history, and human psyche are all engrained through the story。 If I could give a 4。5 I would。 It's a very good series, every book in the trilogy stands out in their own way。 The only downsides are minor, for instance I think the end of book 3 could have happened sooner than it did。 Overall a very engrossing series which makes you think a bit and is more than just hard sci fi - elements of philosophy, history, and human psyche are all engrained through the story。 。。。more

First book is a definite 5-star。 Great plot, really interesting premise。 Could not get into the second book - boring。 Sitting around waiting for something to happen。 Third book started out great but just lost intetest - very uneven。 But definitely read the first book!

Fantastic read。 The first 2 thirds of the book are more the implication of science fiction than actual fiction。 it is an earth from the 1960s and 70s that you will recognize as nearly factual。 The 3Body problem (an actual area of study in physics) is presented and makes for a fascinating science possibility and an intellectual challenge。 This is mixed in with a mystery/detective story。 This issue is gamified in the novel and very exciting to read。The final third of the novel gets into hard scien Fantastic read。 The first 2 thirds of the book are more the implication of science fiction than actual fiction。 it is an earth from the 1960s and 70s that you will recognize as nearly factual。 The 3Body problem (an actual area of study in physics) is presented and makes for a fascinating science possibility and an intellectual challenge。 This is mixed in with a mystery/detective story。 This issue is gamified in the novel and very exciting to read。The final third of the novel gets into hard science fiction。 It reads much like a futuristic Cold War between the Soviet Union and United States。 That this is written by a Chinese woman whose access to Western sci-fi and whose ability to sell her work to the Western world only recently was allowed makes it even more incredible。This work definitely places Liu Cixin in my list of favorite SciFi authors with Asimov, Heinlein, Clark, and a handful of others。 Looking forward to reading the two sequels。 。。。more

No doubt 3 body series is and will always be one of the best sci-fi series that have ever written。 The whole series is not just about space adventure but it also touches the aspects of sociology, history, human psychology, environment and many more topics。Being said that this is hard scifi series with more details of fundamental physics, astronomy and cosmology and you'd enjoy more especially 3rd book if you are really interested in above subjects。 Now I'll be waiting for Netflix adaptation。 No doubt 3 body series is and will always be one of the best sci-fi series that have ever written。 The whole series is not just about space adventure but it also touches the aspects of sociology, history, human psychology, environment and many more topics。Being said that this is hard scifi series with more details of fundamental physics, astronomy and cosmology and you'd enjoy more especially 3rd book if you are really interested in above subjects。 Now I'll be waiting for Netflix adaptation。 。。。more
